My husband, the wit

I caught The Neverending Story on HBO this evening. Man, did that ever bring back some memories. That's some scary shit, yo! I'm not sure how I made it through that as a kid. And when Atreyu's horse dies? Oh man.

Some creative IMDBing as I was watching yielded the following information: The Neverending Story was directed by Wolfgang Petersen, who's directing a movie version of Ender's Game, to be released in 2006.

Another movie I loved as a kid was The Last Unicorn. Apparently, they're making a live-action version of it, also to be released in 2006. Interestingly, it stars the same people who did the voices for the 1982 animated original.

BK got home from a business trip while I was finishing up The Neverending Story. I had paused the TiVo and the child-like empress' little cherubic face was on the screen. BK asked, "What's that?" I said, " The Neverending Story! Have you seen it?" To which BK replied, without missing a beat, "I tried, but it was too long."

(sorry this must be in all caps - I really am THAT excited)

Sadly, The Neverending Story scacred the crap out of me as a kid and gave me nightmares for years. I have no fond memories of that movie.

Raul and I were just talking about the Neverending Story last week when looking for an old-school video to buy for my friend's kids. We were debating whether it was too scary for a 4-year old but couldn't remember. I guess that's a yes.
I think I had crushes on both Atreyu AND the Princess and quite possibly the Luck Dragon.

I also loved the Last Unicorn, although that Red Bull was some scary shit. I totally believed in unicorns. I'm not so sure about a live action version though.

Those were probably my two favorite movies from youth. You've made me want to see them again.

Have you seen the trailer for the new Willy Wonka with my BF Johnny Depp? I'm a little worried that JD looks like Wacko Jacko in the movie poster.

Considering I'm 28 and I was clutching Buster when the Gmork was on the screen, I'd say I would have wet myself at age four.

Depp's looks like Coco fucking Chanel in the CatCF previews. That hair! Those sunglasses! Who's responsible for that disaster?

Shut the Fuck up!! Last Unicorn as a movie---I will stand in line for days to see that. But, Mia Farrow as Molly?!? So glad, Angela Lansbury will be in it again, wasn't she the voice of that character for the cartoon? Is anyone else seeing a problem here?
That was the best ever cartoon made and puts Disney movies to shame
